Separation Sunday is The Hold Steady's second studio album (2005, Frenchkiss Records). The concept record follows a troupe of characters (Craig, Holly, Charlemagne, Gideon) on a journey of faith, addiction, and prostitution. Lyrically complex, the songs use allusions, self-reference, puns, and Craig Finn's distinct sprechgesang style. Musically, it combines classic rock with unique structuring. Described as "the best bar band in the world" (Blender), the cover was shot in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It featured in Tony Hawk's Project 8. Track list includes fan faves "Hornets! Hornets!", "Your Little Hoodrat Friend", "Stevie Nix", "Chicago Seemed Tired Last Night". 2016 CD reissue has 3 bonus tracks.

Track list: "Hornets! Hornets!," "Cattle and Creeping Things," "Your Little Hoodrat Friend," "Banging Camp," "Charlemagne in Sweatpants," "Stevie Nix" (Finn/Kubler/Polivka), "Multitude of Casualties," "Don't Let Me Explode" (Finn/Nicolay), "Chicago" (Finn/Kubler/Nicolay), "Crucifixion Cruise," "How a Resurrection Really Feels," 2016 CD reissue bonus tracks: "212-Margarita," "The Most Important Thing," "Cattle and Creeping Things" (demo), "Charlemagne" (demo), "Crucifixion Cruise" (guitar/piano demo)
